To Be a Sky Dancer

Being a Sky Dancer provides many young ladies with their first opportunity to experience a true sisterhood — a bond built through shared accomplishments, challenges, hard work, and unforgettable memories. Learning to work closely with others, support teammates, and grow together is an important part of the drill team experience. To be selected as a Sky Dancer is an honor. Remaining an active member requires dedication, responsibility, and commitment. Each member must maintain passing grades in all classes, continue developing dance technique and performance ability, represent herself and the organization with integrity, and uphold all standards and expectations established for the team.

Being a Sky Dancer means being part of something greater than yourself. It means working together, dancing together, and standing together as one team. Leadership is an essential part of the organization, and members are given opportunities to develop confidence, responsibility, and leadership skills both on and off the field.

The Sky Dancers are a proud and respected organization. In addition to supporting the school and representing the campus alongside faculty, administration, and student organizations, the team also serves the community. Sky Dancers are expected to step forward when help is needed and to serve others with pride and humility. Membership provides young ladies with opportunities to demonstrate initiative, creativity, leadership, poise, and self-assurance. Performing before audiences helps members grow in confidence and maturity, while the lessons learned through drill team help prepare them for adulthood and future success.

Commitment and dedication are expected from every member of the Sky Dancers Drill Team. For many girls, participation in drill team becomes one of the most rewarding and memorable parts of their high school experience. While there will be exciting moments, recognition, and lifelong friendships, membership also requires sacrifice, discipline, and teamwork. It is important to understand that membership on the team is a privilege, not a right.

Being selected as a Sky Dancer is an outstanding achievement, but it is also a serious commitment that should be thoughtfully considered. Each member should have the support and understanding of her parent(s) or guardian(s), and families should fully understand the responsibilities and expectations that accompany membership from the very beginning. Drill team requires many hours before and after school, as well as evening and weekend commitments throughout the year.

Parent involvement is also a vital part of the Sky Dancers organization. One of the team’s greatest strengths is strong family support and participation. Parents are encouraged to volunteer, serve on committees, assist with fundraising activities, support performances, and contribute their time and talents whenever possible.

When a young lady becomes a member of the Sky Dancers, her entire family becomes part of the Sky Dancer family as supporters, volunteers, and fans. Being involved in drill team requires commitments of time, finances, and emotional investment, but it is our hope that the experience will be rewarding and meaningful for the entire family.

Time Commitment

Family schedules may occasionally need to be adjusted to accommodate rehearsals, performances, competitions, football games, and team events. Because drill team is a team activity, each member’s attendance and punctuality are essential. When one member is late or absent, it affects the entire team’s ability to rehearse and perform successfully.

Parents are encouraged to volunteer their time through activities such as football dinners, chaperoning events, fundraising efforts, dance clinics, prop building, costume preparation, homecoming mum creation, social events, and attending as many performances as possible. A strong support system helps strengthen the organization and enriches the experience for every member.

Financial Commitment

Every effort is made to keep expenses reasonable; however, there are costs associated with participating in drill team. To help reduce financial burdens, the Booster Club and families work together through fundraising efforts that directly benefit the organization and its members. Each family is expected to support these events through participation, volunteering, and encouraging others to contribute whenever possible.

Emotional Commitment

Throughout the year, each member will experience both successes and disappointments. The love, encouragement, and support of family members play an important role in helping girls navigate these experiences. Celebrate accomplishments and milestones, recognizing the hard work and dedication required to achieve them. During difficult moments, offer encouragement and perspective, understanding that learning to handle pressure, frustration, and challenges is part of personal growth and maturity.

Open and respectful communication between parents, students, and directors is essential. Many concerns can be resolved through honest conversation and mutual understanding. Working together with positivity and trust allows the organization to continue improving and growing stronger.

As members of the Sky Dancers family, we ask that every individual cherish and protect the reputation and integrity of the organization. Words and actions should always reflect positively on the team. While every person is unique and valued as an individual, we must also remember to consider what is best for the entire group. What may seem small to one person may greatly impact another. Success within the Sky Dancers comes from mutual respect, teamwork, sacrifice, and a willingness to support one another.

By working together, supporting one another, and committing ourselves fully to the values of the organization, we can continue building a strong, positive, and successful Sky Dancers family.

Financial Agreement

Membership within the Sky Dancers Dance Team requires that all athletes purchase practice wear, performance pieces, and other items as designated by the Sky Dancer Directors. Additional operating costs and fees are also the responsibility of the member. Sky Dancer payments will be collected throughout the summer and fall.  The Booster Club Treasurer will reach out with a specific payment plan for each member, depending on their total amount.

NOTE: All members of the Sky Dancers must remain current on all financial obligations in order to fully participate during performances, events, and activities.

Besides the original $300 deposit, all remaining payments must be made via Zelle or Venmo to the Sky Dancer Booster Club, unless otherwise noted to the Booster Club Treasurer. It is the responsibility of each Sky Dancer to ensure that they are meeting all payment deadlines. Failure to submit payments by their due dates will result in your inability to perform and/or removal from the program.

“I understand that in order for my child to participate in Sky Dancers, I must meet the financial obligations.

I understand that I will be able to access my student’s financial account through the Booster Club at any time. Payments can be made through Venmo, Zelle, or PayPal (extra fees apply) with the Sky Dancer Booster Club Accounts. Cash or checks not accepted.

I will make sure I stay informed about fundraisers and payment deadlines.

I understand that the deposit that includes the team camp fee must be paid by June 5, 2026, in order for the New Member or Returner to be eligible to participate as a Sky Dancer for the 26-27 school year.

I understand that I must adhere to the payment plan and must be made on time and in its entirety in order to receive equipment items and be able to participate in Sky Dancer practices, performances, and other activities deemed by the director.  

I understand that there are no refunds after monies have been paid, regardless if my student is removed, chooses to quit, or becomes academically ineligible.

I also understand that if my child chooses to quit or is removed from the team for receiving 15 demerits, if I still have an outstanding balance, I am still obligated to pay the remaining equipment balance.”
